Are MAC Lipsticks Safe During Pregnancy? Formulas Checked
MAC lipstick does not have one pregnancy verdict. The current formulas checked range from 99, no known risks, to 58, medium risk. Finish, formula generation and shade pigments matter more than the MAC name alone.
Quick verdict: Amplified and current Macximal Matte examples sit in easier bands. Check Love Me and older formulas individually, and avoid using testers directly on the lips.
MAC lipstick formulas compared
MAC Amplified Lipstick
A wax, butter, ceramide and pigment formula with no current matched flag.
MAC Macximal Matte Viva Glam Lipstick
A modern matte formula with shea butter and coconut oil. Methicone is the current low-risk flag.
MAC Love Me Lipstick
BHT raises the current matched formula to medium risk.

Why one MAC lipstick can score differently from another
Lipstick ranges are reformulated more often than their familiar names suggest. A matte, satin and amplified finish may use different film formers, antioxidants, waxes and emollients even when the shades look similar. The colour section of the ingredient list can also change by shade, which is why a verdict for one red or nude should not automatically be copied to every colour in the range.
The score is a formula-screening tool, not a measure of how flattering, long-wearing or moisturising the lipstick will be. A 99 product has no currently matched pregnancy-risk ingredient in the reviewed list; it does not mean allergy or irritation is impossible. The 58 score for the reviewed Love Me formula comes from BHT, not from lipstick pigment as a category.
A practical way to choose and wear lipstick
Match the exact range name on the base of the tube to the ingredient list. If you are buying an older shade online, check whether the packaging belongs to a previous formula generation. Replace lipstick if its smell, texture or colour changes, and do not share products when either person has an active cold sore.
Ordinary lip application creates a much smaller exposure than deliberately eating a product, but some transfer while eating and drinking is normal. Apply the amount you need, blot if preferred, and remove it at the end of the day with a gentle cleanser. If pregnancy has made your lips dry or reactive, a plain balm underneath may be more useful than chasing the longest-wearing finish.
