Eye safety belongs in the decision
Do not pump the wand, add water or use saliva to thin mascara. Close it tightly, respect the period-after-opening symbol and discard it after an eye infection. Never apply while travelling in a moving vehicle.
If you wear contact lenses, insert them before makeup and stop using the mascara if particles collect under a lens. Watery, red or persistently gritty eyes need a break from eye makeup.
Tubing mascara usually removes with warm water and gentle pressure. Waterproof versions need an effective remover, but repeated rubbing can damage lashes and irritate lids. Hold a soaked pad briefly, then wipe softly.

Waterproof, tubing and traditional wax formulas
Traditional mascara uses waxes, pigments and film-formers and comes away with cleanser or eye remover. Waterproof formulas use more water-resistant films and can be useful for watery eyes, but removal usually needs an oil phase. Tubing formulas form polymers around each lash and release in small tubes with warm water. None of those technologies carries a single pregnancy score.
Colour matters too. Black, brown and coloured variants may use different pigments or preservatives, so check the exact shade if the ingredient list changes. “Clean mascara” is not a hygiene guarantee; preservative-free or low-preservative eye products can still become contaminated after opening.
Pregnancy can change contact-lens tolerance and make eyes drier. Apply mascara outside the lash roots rather than on the waterline, remove it every night and pause eye makeup if lids become inflamed. During breastfeeding, keep tubes and wands away from a baby's hands and wash off flakes before close face-to-face sleep.
